How rude of me to start a new website and fail to engage with it. Can you forgive me? Anyone who was listening would know I am battling resistance and writing a dissertation on Sustainable Development ontology vs epistemology for it’s long term implementation….blaa blaa blaa. Actually I’m loving it and I didn’t need to choose such difficult theories but as the course pissed me off so much with it’s hidden agendas and in my opinion inability to focus on a true meaning for Sustainability, I thought I would be a smart arse and do something clever. Subsequently everything else will have to take a back seat till these 15000 words are emptied out of me.
But whilst you wait for me to shout and scream at the world again, click on this and tell me what’s wrong with this picture. No word of a lie I spent an hour just watching it but can you tell me why?

Oleuanna,
That has to be one of the creepiest websites ever. Not sure what you’ve seen wrong with it but seems to me that the composite names, composite pictures game is very exploitative. And possibly racist.
More worrying is the continuing neo-colonialist argument that the solution lies in us rich folk giving (through taxes) our money to help those who can’t help themselves. There’s no reference to what Government’s in the countries from which those composite faces emerge might be doing.
In truth the aim should be to REDUCE international aid not INCREASE it.
Sad beyond belief. I wish people were provided with the means and education to grow their own food. That would give them nourishment and dignity at the same time
wow, this site is unorganized. Is there a point to all this?
Simon.. you have brushed upon most of my thinking…yes of course there should be a re-evaluation of food aid…and I know the governing bodies know this……why they don’t invest in agriculture is beyond me. It kind of leads me to believe that there are certain parts of the world being repressed by the money lords…I just can’t work out why. Help is needed because empires left places in tatters… there should be some sort of accountability no not for ever but seeing as the west are sitting pretty off the back of those now suffering I think some long term strategy is needed.
Anyway…what bugged me about this site, is all the faces seen were brown. People die of hunger ALL over the world not just in South America, Asia and Africa I found that portrayal disturbing and manipulative. Also it relays that those people seen died that hour…who the hell is taking those pictures…and citing their deaths on a web page? How disrespectful is that? And what point can be made from such a horrific tact…I was disgusted. I guess I am just a bit fed up with this kind of advert for aid, watching starving black babies over three decades tends to loose it’s impact but that might just be me.
I agree to a point….but that’s what I’m working on…I’ve had enough my profound friend
So you came here to say what exactly…? You don’t like my web page and you won’t be back? A sly limp attack at my efforts because you felt bored today? Your website is in the top 50 of Wikio and Total Politics and you have every right to scoff at who you like?
It’s my web page to help with my studies, it’s not brilliant and a constant work in progress as I complete my MSc…I’ll make no apologies for it as I fucking love my silly site. So Anthony…I’m not sure the point of many things…but when I question them I do it with imagination and never acrimony…and at this moment Anthony I’m not sure the point of you…..
Would love to read more of your writing.
Hey Ian, thank you that’s a lovely statement. Just need to concentrate on my paper, then I will have a free Summer to become more involved with my blog, I’ll be back. Thank you.
I love your website, you should totally disregard pointless comments.
I like the suject raised on your blog and the analysis of the situation.
Keep up the good work
How nice are you?… Thanks a lot but I have to tell you, I do rise to the taunts one of my absolute failings in life….I’ll address it further in the summer. Cheers sister!
It’s OK. No worries.
Time for some serious birth control, like sterilization?
Eileen what an interesting comment especially coming from a woman. Do you live in the Northern part of the world per chance? Would you suggest such a demoralising unethical resolve for the people on welfare in your area? What you are suggesting is that we spade them?
The answer is Education, it’s the only ethical resolve and yes I am aware that it’s not working over night but in he more stable areas it is. It’s just to sustain it.
I actually just did a report on the ethics of feeding the hungry. The surprising thing is, the world produces more than enough food to feed every human. The biggest problem is the logistics of relocating the excess food grown.
My final conclusion was that education – especially for girls – that implemented a food program (provided breakfast/lunch, etc) would make an immense dent in not only world hunger, but also general poverty and sustainable birth rates. Education is something affluent nations take for granted, but it really is the seed to start a better life.

It’s not surprising at all !! We know the world produces shit loads of food, but we also recognise the properties of this surplus produce and indeed the rotten effects.
Nothing to do with relocation of surplus resource, if anything, those countries that have surplus need to realise that deficit and surplus are very much the same problem…if you have too much; your budget/grant./credit/accounts need auditing and a reevaluation of your budget needs to occur.
Of course we agree on Education doesn’t everybody?
This had me feelin a mixture emos.. firstly the horror of being reminded how high the staggering figures of worldwide hunger-related deaths are.. and second why were they only concentrating on a small portion?? Then it made me think of all the campaigns for world hunger that they show on TV and in ads everywhere and how they all portray the same thing.. black african children that are dying of hunger when they clearly state its a worldwide epidemic how very stereotypical.. I grew up with ads like these and not much if anything has changed!
This only served to reinforce it in my mind as a kid (and im sure the majority over) that children that die are from Africa, that they depend on the world for survival, and a place I was glad I wasnt born in when I compared it with our lifestyle of plenty. It evoked the saddest most helpless feelings coupled with anger and frustration. Funny how kids can think, and how innocent minds are easily manipulated. Do U blame em?
After decades of campaigns, relief efforts and billions of dollars spent are we any closer to ending world hunger? Are organizations expanding their approach? Is education being implemented? Are governments doing enough? Is our awareness being shifted towards the true facts of this global epidemic?
I agree the answer is education to sustain and maintain.. in all areas of life. With education comes knowledge.. wisdom.. and choices.. The choice and knowledge to become self sufficient, productive, and to maintain a quality of life that we all have a right to and deserve!
Anyways..this has been my two bobs worth for today.. and Olie I cant wait for the screaming to begin lol Missed ya! cheers grrl xx
Miz….there is nothing I need to add, you have spoken eloquently as ever. But as I have been vocalising over the past year there are a LOT of organisations implementing sustainable development strategies, mostly based on education, the future is bright but Charities still like to play on those scenes of death and starvation. I started getting into agricultural investment last year and at first I thought it was a blot on the landscape but from what I can see it is the new drive and finally perceived solution for rural areas, which is where you will find the poverty is localised in most countries.
Images of black babies dying was my introduction to Africa coupled with the slave trade and the everlasting image of bones through tribal noses in Hollywood films…some of the images have changed, even so the portrayal of black people still comes across as needing support in their own countries even after independence this portrayal in its self is oppressive. There are a lot more success stories which people are not aware of and maybe I shall make that part of my task with this blog to show how the Worldbanks money is used and just how effective it has been.
I think if people were exposed to more of the understanding of how the money is distributed they wouldn’t feel that it is a pointless cause, areas do stabilise but the climate does continue to change. There will always be poor people but we have the ability to resolve starvation and I intend to help sustain that resolve and hopefully promote the need of those people in a less disrespectful way than babies covered with flies and distended stomachs. I think not only is it synonymous with black Africans in constant need but people are now becoming immune to it and that’s the last thing we need.
Nice to see you back ‘x’
Hello Oleunna. I’ve come because you’ve shown up as a follower on one of my blogs–perhaps the most boring one–The Smart Group and Gallery. But in defense of commerce, we have to pay the bills. I see we have some common interests. Your story is interesting–good luck with your school and projects. Thanks for joining our meager little business site. I do some other writing including an experimental blog called Children of Zol http://www.zolkids.blogspot.com, but nothing as succinct and crisp as your words.
Are you familiar with David Korten? I recently posted a little tribute to him at http://www.fiveplaces.blogspot.com.
Cheers,

food aids are badly needed by third world countries and we really need to give something to the poor.-;.
